Hello

I'm Lindsay, the founder of SILKSY satin lined hats, a wife, mother of two beautiful children, and a Registered Nurse.

My Story

After having my daughter in 2016, I developed melasma (large pigmentation patches) on my face. This condition is made worse by sun exposure. To prevent the condition from worsening, I would wear hats most of the time when outside. However, I often get frustrated that this would leave me with frizzy, dry hair. I have been fortunate enough to find a treatment for the condition, but this involves using retanols and other products that cause the skin to be sensitive to sun exposure.

I loosely follow the curly girl method, so I was already aware of the benefits of satin and silk in preventing frizz. I initially searched for a satin-lined hat but could not find one at the time in the style or quality that I wanted. This lead me to begin to develop my own range.

I'm often asked why rayon satin, not silk. There are two main reasons for my choice, the first being that I didn't feel that the production method of silk (the boiling of silkworms) was something I wanted to support. Secondly, silk is expensive, and I wanted my hats to be accessible to as many people as possible. So, after lots of research into different types of satin (mostly done during night feeds of my second baby), I decided on rayon as it is plant-based. This is a slightly more expensive satin than polyester satin, but I decided it was worth having a more natural product against the skin when wearing one of my hats.
