My name is Lindsay, and I am the founder of Silksy, a wife, mother of two beautiful children, and a Registered Nurse. My journey to creating Silksy began in 2016, when I developed melasma, a condition characterised by large pigmentation patches on the face. It was a frustrating time, as I wanted to protect my skin from the sun, but I also didn't want to sacrifice my hair's health.
That's when I discovered the benefits of satin in preventing frizz. I searched high and low for a satin-lined hat, but I couldn't find one that met my needs in terms of style or quality. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and create my own hat. And that's how Silksy was born.
I wanted to create a hat that not only protected my skin from sun exposure but also kept my hair looking healthy. I chose to use rayon satin as the lining for our hats, as I didn't want to support the production method of silk (the boiling of silkworms) and I also wanted to make our hats accessible to as many people as possible. Rayon satin is a plant-based material and is slightly more expensive than polyester satin, but I believe that it's worth it to have a more natural product against the skin.
At Silksy, we believe that protecting our environment is just as important as protecting ourselves. That's why we are committed to using eco-friendly materials and packaging, and for every hat sold, we donate to plant a tree with Tree App.
